What a Workout - not for beginners
I love Leslie Sansone. She saved my life! Doing her workouts, I have lost forty pounds and have continued to maintain the weight loss. I have ten, maybe fifteen, of her DVDs. I was excited to see the writeup on this latest DVD and preordered it through Amazon. Well, it arrived today and I hit the ground running.
The DVD is in two segments - you are supposed to do segment one on M, W, F - this is the cardio segment with lots of our favorite moves but to a super quick pace. The music is much improved but it is fast. Leslie also does some new moves, bounces, skaters (side steps with a toe touch to the back) and a cha cha move. There are a mix of people with her - none of our old favorites however. There is also a brief cool down.
The second segment is the weight segment. You are supposed to do this segment on T, Th, Sat. (taking Sunday off). After a brief cardio warmup, you pick up your dumbbells - I used two 5 pounders - and you squat and squat and...
Great New Video
I've been using Leslie's videos for about a year and a half now, and have a dozen or so that I like to cycle through. This is one of my favorites. If you are new to exercise, this probably isn't the video you want to start with. I can do her 5 mile walks and don't start sweating until mile 3 - this one has me sweating not long after starting the walk. There are two segments, the first is the Burn 30 workout that you do Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The second segment is the Firm 30 workout that you do Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The Burn workout uses optional light hand weights and is fast. Even the warm up is on the fast side, and along with the usual side steps, kicks, knee lifts and kick backs, there are skaters, "step-step-run, run, runs", tap outs, double tap outs, moving kick backs, and arms go up, down and out to the sides several times. At one point, Leslie stops doing the arm moves and walks around to talk to the walkers while everyone else keeps moving the arms...
2 Workouts to Alternate-- Strength and Cardio!
Leslie's new workout is a nice coordinated pair of 30 minute workouts to alternate--fast paced walking in one workout and strength training in the second workout. The walking workout is 30 minutes, including a warm up and cool down. The pace is consistently fast and the moves include Leslie's traditional four walk moves, plus a few add-ons like skaters and cha-chas. I like the fast pace--it kept my heart rate up. The set is nice and bright and the music is energetic. The strength workout includes a cardio warm up and then a complete set of moves for legs, arms, and abs. She does a fair number of squats and lunges, then moves into work for the arms. The workout finishes on the floor with some additional moves for arms and chest, and then ab work.
The is a good basic set that includes all you need for a good exercise program. I like the 30 minute pacing because you can easily fit in one or do both for a longer workout.
